It feels great to give back
During an event which annually represents self interest, or rather an interest in your own team, The Ohio Society encouraged people to give back. The organization sponsored a raffle at the Ohio State vs. Michigan game happy hour on Nov. 19th, in which all proceeds went to the DC Central Kitchen. Michigan and Ohio State fans together raised $125.00 to be donated.
In addition to the raffle, the OSU and Michigan alumni club members went head to head in the second annual food drive competition, where Michigan was able to take the title of 2009 champs, with over 200 food items donated. All items were sent to the DC Central Kitchen, an organization which provides about 4,000 nutritious meals daily for the greater Washington, DC region. Of the numerous programs run through the DCCK, one of the most outstanding programs is the Culinary Job Training Program, which allows homeless individuals to be trained in preparing food in the kitchens, while enrolling in professional and life skills training, and looking for permanent employment. |
